STEP BY STEP TUTORIAL FOR THE CHAIN STITCH
The crochet chain stitch is used to make the foundational line that all other rows build on, and can also be found as a stitch throughout a pattern.
1. Hold the yarn in the left hand, and hold the tail with the thumb to create some light tension on the crochet hook. Hold the hook in front of the yarn, ready to "YARN ROUND HOOK" (yrh).
2. Twist the hook to the right as you bring it behind the yarn.
3. Twist the hook to face you as you gently pull it down to the slip knot, still keeping hold of the tail.
4. Pull the hook with the yarn through the slip knot, and there you have your first chain! On to the next.....
Voila!!
CROCHET CHAIN STITCH TIP
As this is the foundation piece, try and resist making the chains too tight. Keep the chains relaxed and loose, practice the tension of the yarn and how it affects the size of each chain, and try and be consistent.
