Slip Knot

How to Make a Crochet Slip Knot

A crochet slip knot is the essential starting point to master, as this will be the starting point to every crochet project, no matter how big or small!

STEP BY STEP TUTORIAL FOR CROCHET SLIP KNOT

There are few different ways to make this slip knot, but I'm just showing the way that I've learned and comfortably got used to...

1. Wrap your yarn twice over two closed fingers, with the tail end dropping toward your wrist. When you slip your fingers out, the tail will naturally fall at the back of the loops.

2. Take your crochet hook and insert it BEHIND THE TAIL, so it looks the hook is going OVER yarn, UNDER yarn, OVER yarn, OVER yarn.

3. Next, with your thumb hold both the yarn and tail while you gently pull the crochet hook making the slip knot close in.

4. Finally, pull the tail to tighten the knot.

CROCHET SLIP KNOT TIP

A tug on the main yarn will loosen the knot, while a tug on the tail will tighten it up....handy to know when making magic circles :)
